Manna is free and carries no advertising. Here is everything it keeps. It is a short list.
On your device
Three of these are needed for the site to work at all. Staying signed in, keeping the board you are part-way through, and remembering your answer to this. The rest only happen if you say yes.
that you are signed in
Only if you make an account. Signing out deletes it.
needed to run
the board you are part-way through
So leaving mid-puzzle does not lose the board you were in the middle of.
needed to run
your answer to this question
So you are only asked once.
needed to run
your streak
The dates you finished each game. Nothing else about them.
only if you agree
whether you have seen each game's rules
So the rules open themselves the first time you play a game, and stay shut after that.
only if you agree
You can clear all of it in your browser settings at any time, and you can change your answer below. Clearing takes your streak with it, along with any board you had going.
Saying no clears your streak from this device, along with the record of which rules you have already read.
Counting puzzles
Manna counts how many people open each puzzle and how many finish it, so we can tell whether a board was too hard. Most people play without an account, and counting only the ones who sign in would mean not knowing whether anybody is here.
To do that without knowing who you are, we turn your address and browser into a daily code and keep only the code. Neither is stored, no cookie is involved, and the codes are deleted after ninety days. If your browser asks not to be tracked, we count nothing at all.
Signed in, those same three things are also recorded against your account: which puzzle, which day, and whether you finished it. That is what tells us how many people are here rather than how many times a page was opened. It is kept for about a year, it is deleted with your account, and it is never sold or shared.
If you make an account
An account is your email address and the dates you finished each game. That is what carries a streak from a phone to a laptop. Nothing else is kept.
Signing in is a link sent to your email. There is no password to lose.
Manna is for ages 13 and up, so making an account asks your date of birth once. We record whether it cleared 13 and then discard the date.
